TRUE BLOOD

For those of you who’ve never heard about the latest HBO flick, “True Blood” is about vampires and it’s based on the novels by Charleine Harris. Not only do all humans know about the existence of the vampire race but the vampires themselves are allowed to live among the humans (so-called ‘mainstreaming’). Now, there’s a twist, isn’t there?

The series has a great potential for a fresh new perspective on the old story about a human girl falling for a ‘tall, dark and handsome’ vampire however, we quickly find out that it isn’t so. First of all, it takes place in a small town somewhere in Louisiana, which means a lot of southern variety of speech (and when I say ‘a lot’, I do mean a lot! To the point that one simply must tune it out or otherwise turn it off altogether.)

Secondly, where is the ‘tall, dark and handsome’ vampire that the main female character (who in their right mind names their heroine Sookie?!) falls for? Because tell you the truth, Bill Compton is far from it…

Thirdly, as funny as the first few episodes are, the whole series quickly turns sour and simply weird (and not in a good sense of the word)… There are many lines in the story that simply don’t make any sense, no matter how far you stretch your imagination.

So would I advise anyone to watch it? Not quite, unless you feel like wasting a few evenings on something that is absolutely not worth it… There are many other vampire shows that are so much more entertaining.
