SHOUD WE TALK POLITICS?
I have tried no to touch that subject because we all know that it can be quite dicey. However, it seems that the whole world is watching the upcoming elections and the present campaigns so it is only fitting to say at least a few words, isn’t it?
To be frank, I am quite fed up with the dirty tricks, which the only purpose is to slam the opponent. Sometimes I wish these people would start behaving like adults (that supposedly they are) and have some dignity in their actions. This is actually one of a few things I admire about Senator Obama. If nothing else, at least he is trying to rise above that level of nastiness and immaturity and show the public that there are other ways of conducting the business of politics.
What I would love to hear them talk about are the pressing issues, such as the economical crisis, the energy crisis and environmental protection. I have yet to hear McCain say anything specific about any of the important matters however he is quite quick to slam Obama in any way possible (we’ve all watched the unfortunate commercial, haven’t we?).
It’s no great secret that I don’t like the republican candidate and frankly don’t know many people that actually do (thank God!). Since we live overseas now I have a chance to experience another point of view and a general consensus in Europe is that the majority is rooting for Obama. Be it his charm, eloquence or simply the fact that he is actually touching upon the issues at hand and providing some kind of plan of action, the end result is the same: if it was up to the Europeans, Obama would win without a doubt.
So it leaves me hoping that Americans are actually ready for a change and are able to look past someone’s skin color or race and focus on what is important in the next leader of their country.
