DILEMMAS OF AN AMATUER PHOTOGRAPHER…
I love photography and for years I’ve had this really amazing 35mm camera that takes fantastic pictures. However, times have changed and everybody moved to digital photography. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind digital but there’s nothing like holding the glossy pictures in your hands and looking at the effects of your work.
Yes, you can have your digital pictures printed but how many of us actually do that? One good thing about digital cameras is the instant gratification of being able to see the picture you have just taken… Now, if only we were able to delete the ones that aren’t so great… Personally, I am learning to take a lot more pictures than I would otherwise and then simply going through them and (yes!) deleting the ones that are not up to my standards. Hey, it doesn’t cost me anything after all, does it?
If it was my choice, however, I’d stick with my 35mm but I find it very difficult to get my films developed properly anymore. Most of the time I end up with poor quality prints and wasted money, which is extremely frustrating. So I’ve decided to look for a good digital camera. Of course, my choice in the matter would be a SLR (professional) camera (oh, if only I had the money) but the initial sum you end up spending is just the beginning. I didn’t want a simple point-and-shoot kind though since these tend to be what I call ‘idiot cameras” and definitely aren’t my type.
So after weeks of research I found the best of both worlds—Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18S with 18x Optical Zoom and Wide Angle Lens (a camera that gives you options for both manual and automatic settings, your choice) for a price of a better point-and-shoot.
My husband and I decided to get it for both our birthdays (a bit of a collective gift) so we’ve had it for a while now. It takes great pictures!!! And it’s light, affordable and easy to use (although I’m still learning…only because I don’t want to just use the automatic setting and I like to know everything about the things I buy…)
