AMERICAN IDOL MANIA?
I have never watched “American Idol” nor have I been tempted to. From the beginning I deemed it too be beyond me and my interests… So six years went by and I found myself thinking: “Wait a minute. Isn’t it a bit hypocritical of me? How can I form opinions about something I haven’t quite seen for myself?” So, to avoid being one of these people, I decided I was going to watch at least one episode.
Season 7 came about and I find myself absolutely addicted. I blame it on two, no, scratch that, three guys: David Cook (isn’t he gorgeous?!), Michael Johns (I’m a sucker for an accent. Besides, he is hot!) and Jason Castro (unlike his namesake—the horrible Cuban Castro, you know who I’m talking about…, he’s totally sweet). So every week I sit in front of the TV set grinning like a teenager when these guys come on. Well, minus Michael, that is.
I was totally shocked (thought my jaw was going to drop to the ground!) when America voted him off. I seriously think they got it all wrong. Unfortunately for me (I currently live in Europe) the show airs a day behind the US so I, personally, cannot vote. Too bad, I say…
And I simply cannot understand people’s dislike for Simon. I think he’s fantastic. Not many TV personalities have enough guts to say “Screw that! I‘m going to be who I am and say what I want!” Besides, he is honest and actually gives pretty sound advice. Unlike Paula, who has troubles finishing a sentence (too many drugs over the years?) and Randy, who seems is able to only say “Yo dude!” or “Watch out, Baby”. I mean, seriously man, increase your vocabulary.
So here I am, not a fan exactly but must admit quite enjoying myself. I refuse to give into this whole Idol-mania though. And perhaps next year I’ll stay away from the TV when the next season comes on. Haven’t quite made up my mind yet…
