“TRUE EVIL” BY GREG ILES
“True evil has a face you know and a voice you trust…” reads the very cover of the book enticing you to pick it up and find out just what kind of evil it is.
The novel takes place in Jackson and Natchez, Mississippi where Greg Iles lives, and where the atmosphere of the delta reflects the atmosphere of the book. The book puts forward some very interesting notions as to the state of the affairs in the modern global world, the role US plays in the international arena and the development and use of the biological weapons. But this is only a subplot of the novel where the main story line is the cat-and-mouse chase between a rogue FBI agent, Alex Morse and a psychopathic pathologist who develops retroviruses to kill people.
Alex Morse has had a terrible year, in which her father gets shot, her mother lies dying in the oncology wing of the Jackson hospital and her sister has just had a stroke. Grace’s dying words are that her own husband has killed her… Thus, Alex swears she will do anything to revenge her sister’s murder and save her only nephew from the horrific influences of his murdering father. And the only way she can stop the killers and bring them to justice is to convince their next victim, Dr. Chris Shepard, that his beautiful wife has ordered him killed. However, this may turn out to be a lot more difficult than she predicted and may cause her whole investigation to fall through… Will Alex manage to persuade Shepard that his wife is a part of the plot, in which numerous spouses of rich clients have died in mysterious circumstances? Or will he fall victim to deadly trap?
“True Evil” is a very engrossing suspense novel with exploding events at nearly every page and will definitely keep you up at night. It is a perfect mixture of action and science, in which you are not only entertained but also taught about some very interesting aspects of the modern world and its science.
