“The Footprints of God” is an extremely fascinating novel, which combines both educational and entertaining elements. Greg Iles explores here a horrifying prospect that the next step in human evolution may not actually be human at all.

The US government’s top secret pet project is called Trinity, a supercomputer with intelligence breaking the barriers of technology, ethics and morality and opening the door to what could easily become humanity’s worst nightmare. Amidst the group of world’s prominent scientists is Dr. David Tennant, project’s ethicist, who possesses knowledge that could be lethal. He knows who killed his fellow scientist and one of the main brains behind Trinity.

Running for his life together with his psychiatrist, Dr. Rachel Weiss, Tennant tries to decipher the connection between Trinity’s apocalyptic power and his tormented mind showing him visions that are both terrifying and startling. In addition, he plans to reveal the secret to the public, which could either save both their lives or get them killed.

However, the greatest threat to human existence is still out there and with every passing minute closer to becoming a reality. And now Tennant must do everything in his power to stop Trinity from achieving its full potential because the price of failure is human extinction…

“The Footprints of God” is a well-written novel that grabs your attention from the very first page and holds it to the very last. It is definitely one of the stories that will engage you so that you will not be able to put it down until you reach the end and find out all the answers to the troublesome questions that keep cropping up.

And as Dan Brown (yes, the author of the notorious “The Da Vinci Code”) put it is a “superbly satisfying” novel that “deftly navigates the perilous waters between science and spirituality”.
