“MADE OF HONOR”
If you’re looking for a good romantic comedy to watch McDreamy in action, you might be quite disappointed with this one.
“Made of Honor”, starring Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Monaghan and Kevin McKid, is predictable, quite mundane and only somewhat funny.
It is a story that has been told and re-told so many times it is pretty difficult to find something new about it. Patrick Dempsey plays your typical womanizer who realizes a bit too late that he has feelings for his best friend (Michelle Monaghan). And when he coughs up enough courage to come clean, she comes back from Europe engaged to a Scottish Mr. Perfect. Thus, for the rest of the film he tries to win her heart while performing the duties of her maid of honor with the most predictable ending one can imagine. It is almost like watching “My Best Friend’s Wedding” with role reversal.
The film fails to deliver on nearly every area. There is no sexual tension or any kind of spark between the main characters and it is quite difficult to imagine both of them falling madly in love with one another. They are more like the best buds rather than lovers. The situational jokes aren’t as funny as they could have been and even seeing McDreamy in a slightly too short kilt doesn’t make up for the lack of interesting plot and smart humor.
All in all, the film drags for over an hour and a half (while it could have been told in about 20 minutes at best), which even the Scottish countryside and the brawly speech cannot make up for.
